Read Chapter 12.6 in Business Communication for Success.

In this topic, you will learn how to apply transitions effectively in your speech. At this point, you should have identified your main points and chosen your organizing principle(s). Now, it’s time to decide how to connect your main ideas clearly. This reading describes fourteen types of transitions you can use to help your audience follow your ideas easily and understand your key message. Consider how you will use various transitions in your own persuasive speech and note them on your outline. Speakers who use their outlines as cue cards sometimes write the transitions they’ve planned between key shifts in content focus.

Recommended: Do Chapter Exercise 2, which invites you to listen to your favourite comedian and write a brief summary of how they transition from topic to topic. Comment on this topic in the WEnotes feed.
