Read Chapter 12.2 in Business Communication for Success. This reading reviews the three forms of rhetorical appeals, and describes the nine cognate strategies used to create effective appeals in persuasive message design. The cognate strategies are: clarity, conciseness, tone, emphasis, arrangement, credibility, expectation, reference, and engagement.

Recommended: Do the first chapter exercise, which asks you to use Table 12.2: How I Will Apply the Cognate Strategies to help you get organized as you begin to prepare your oral presentation.
