Read Chapter 12.5 in Business Communication for Success.

In this topic, you will learn how to apply a variety of speech organizing principles. Choice of an organizing principle will depend on your topic, the rhetorical situation, and various other factors, including your preference as a speaker. This reading describes seventeen purpose-specific organizing patterns for speeches that are appropriate for different topics and rhetorical situations.

Recommended: Do the two chapter exercises with the modifications suggested here. First, choose three different organizing principles from Table 12.6 in your text that you think are most appropriate for your own topic. Then, identify the thesis, or main proposition, in the persuasive speech you are preparing. Next, write an applied example specific to your topic, using the examples in your text as a model. Finally, decide on the presentation software you will use to deliver your speech, and explain why you think this is the best choice.
