View video – Glass in the Class: The Power of Verbal Communication. [21 min.] Kent State University communication scholars interview Mark Traphagen, an online marketing consultant, about business communication in the digital world. In face-to-face communication, verbal and non-verbal communication naturally go together. However, in online environments, written text and videos are dominant. With reduced non-verbal cues, messages need to be carefully designed to support effective communication. Traphagen recommends sharing knowledge in marketing content to build trust, authority and relevance. He also advises humanizing and personalizing online marketing by integrating face-to-face events, and using real-time video software to invite audience feedback to help adapt marketing messages in different contexts.
