How Technology Is Really Going To Change Politics In The Next 20 Years

Since I arrived to this country, I've always wondered how rich, aged politicians know what the common people need. I am middle working class and people who inherit their money and have never stressed about rent or food are making policies that affect me. Now we have a Commander in Chief that spends more time tweeting at LeBron James than meeting with world leaders. We can get stuck in a war started over a typo if he doesn't check his spelling before hitting the send button. Future leaders will be using Snap Chat and Instagram mree than traditional USPS mail or even email. FB will be a major battlefield.

Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech vs censorship. A lot of people are confusing those two topics, myself included. The biggest problem is how the internet is viewed world wide. Unlike TV where every region can control its content, the internet is the same here in California as it is in Europe or Asia. What is acceptable here might not be acceptalee in Asia. It will always be the conservative traditionalists who want the internet to be like a newspaper was 30 years ago vs the new age hipsters who want to get paid for blogging their feelings instead of working. I would be surprised if this fight ends in the next 30 years.

Intelectual Property

When I read this title I rolled my eyes. I've read enough articles where a small company claimed to intelectualyly own a screen or component to a hot new phone or computer for the past 6 to 10 years. They had 6-10 years to build it or use it but decided to wait until the company sold milionss of units to speak up. Imagine what kind of technology we would be missing on if everyone who claimed intelectual property won their cases. On the other side of the coin, laws do exist to protect these individuals or smaller companies becuase dirty companies have stolen and not recognized the individuals who really made a change in this world.

Crime

Technology is great. In the wrong hands it's horrible. People can go to jail for something they never did, have their finances stolen without getting mugged or their homes broken into. A child molester can trick an adolescent into a horrible situation through the internet. As long as there are humans behind any piece of technology we run the risk of currupting it. A website whree children are suppose to meet other children with similar intrestss can be a hunting ground for a sex offender, a heart felt purchase for a 25 year wedding anniversary can turn into someone losing their identity and never being able to recover from it. On a personal note, I'm happy to live in a country where our law enforcmentt is taking notice and trying to stop as many cyber crimes as possible.

Employment , Education and Entertainment

Nintendo. The only company I could think of that covers all three topics. They have been around for-ever (roughly since 1983). They have employed thousansd of people and entertained several generations through their home consoles. They developed a game that taught typing on a modern keyboard using Super Mario Bros. Technology has always created jobs since mass production became a reality at the turn of the 20th century. The classrooms of tomorrow will be more virtual throghh iPads adn VR visors.

Grand Challenges

I want to get upset that we care more about the next iPhone or tablet than investing in disaster prevention or warning systems but I work for a company that make such luxurious technological advances. As long as there is more profit in post disaster occurancess than in preventing them, we will never see any progresionn. Human life will alway take a back seat to "My Life". A recurring theme in my assignments is that the human element will always currupt any technological advacementt if you give it time. We could be close to Utopia similar to what Earth is on "Star Trek" but we have to hit rock bottom before we learn our lesson.

Evaluating and Controlling Technology

It's a hard case when it comes to who should control our technology. If it's left up to teh public to control it ourselves, then we will truly be lost. Most people in Northern California know what kind of tech they want and/or need. I'm not so sure about the rest of the country, much less the world. Whether it's a government assignment to a company to over see our tech development or given to the public, we might get short changed. Or maybe we are teh only ones taht can save us from ourselves. Technology has saved so many lives so I can't be all doom and gloom about this. Plus tech gives me peace a tranquility when I need it. All I know is the technology that I know and have. I have no idea if the next big thing is worth having or if it will change my life and I will be too afraid to make a choice unless someone else guides me throghh it.

Risks, Failures and Responsibilities

This topic seems to change every generation. I remember my grandfather buying a product that would work and he would blame himself for buying it in the first place. My father would complain to the store but htat's it, nothing more. I tend to want an apology from the sales man and compensation from the manufacturer. My generation needs to find blame in others before accepitng that sometimes it's us who mess up the product. I remeberr beign super annoyed when I would wet my phone and it stopped working. I would call the maker, the store and demand to speak anyone who would hear me. My parents would just tell me " Who in their right mind would run through the sprinklers holding their phone." Humans want to hold everyone accountable except ourselves. With that being said, that kind of pressure is what makes tech giants make better products and advance technology faster.

Anytime, Anywhere

Speaking of older generations, they are always they never had this or that and they were happy. They are right, they didn't smart phones or electric cars but they did the latest technology for their time. They heard teh same complaints from their elders. We owe most of our advances to our grand parents and great grand parents. If they didn't use the latest model car or teh newest corded phones, they would have ceased to exist altogether. If pay phones and pagers weren't a hit, we would not have a cell phone today. If people didn't get tired of changing the ribbon on a typ-writter and having to re-write a whole page becuase you couldn't erase a mistake on teh bottom we would not have desk top computer. No matter the time in history or the place in history, we will always abuse our techonolgy use. As soon as time travel is discovered, all of this will be irrelevant.

Technology Advances, Social Trends

Social trends control techological advancess. If society all of a sudden want's to be earth-wise, then technology want's to be green and electric. In 90's everyone wanted to recycle, and technology moved right along. Making recycling plants and discovering hte best way to recycle. Now, the young people want to be relevant and started a trend of composting instead of recycling. Soem groups go as far as saying that recycingg is not good for hte enviroment anymore. Becuase people would rather listen to someone who sounds half smart rather than do a little research themsleves we have a whole new problem on our hands. Just take diseases and conditions, we are investing 75% more in research for a disease that takes the same amount of lives as another disease. ( I will be specific so not to offend anyone) We invest more in technology that might hurt us in the long run that we invest in teh cure or treatment of htat harm. Technology helps itself in that regard. It hurts us and it cures us. We just have to wake up and see what's happeingg.

On a side note, did anyone else experience letters shifting on them when trying this project?
