Read Chapter 17.4 in Business Communication for Success.

This reading discusses the purposes of press conferences, what and how to prepare, and how to conduct them. Communication to the public through the media requires attention to different forms of media to meet audience information needs, professionalism in both nonverbal and verbal presentation, and preparation of responses to likely questions. The press release is also still one of the most effective methods of communicating and promoting a message to the media in a useful, accurate, and interesting manner about an event or circumstance.

Recommended: Do the Chapter exercise. Remember to choose only one scenario to prepare your press statement and answers to at least five possible questions. What differences do you notice between press releases and press conferences? How do press releases and conferences differ from media interviews? You may find it helpful to work through the following activities before doing this exercise.
