Instant messaging is starting to replace the microblogging as they get integrated into other applications such as Facebook, and Skype. Twitter is still a significant application but it will be interesting to see how well it adapts particularly as they "fiddle" with the interface (move to Apps) and streams (in 2013 they filtered the tweets and changed from RSS to JSON for APIs).

Issues

If you are using Twitter in a class using a hash tag, the tweets will disappear from your widget after a week. Under the terms of use in 2011 Twitter disallowed the creation of third party aggregators (sites saving Tweets).

If you are really active on twitter and post also personal things about you and your life, you should also be aware of the simplicity to analyze your whole account. This could also mean to analyze your whole social life.
