Background

IPYET 2011 Participants
Ever since we departed from Lusaka, Zambia, each one of us has been putting into practice most of the things we learnt and shared. As a team, we have been very much determined to work through schools by giving them Entrepreneurship Training and Education. We targeted all the Vocational and Technical School students in and around Cape Coast for this training. In addition to that, we targeted some Senior High Schools and Tertiary students for entrepreneurship training. Till now we have collaborated with Abusua Foundation (Simon's group) to offer free training to these young people. Abusua Foundation has been very helpful in that regard. Lately, we managed to bring on board Mrs. Gifty Saah, an IPYET 2011 Graduate.

Entrepreneurship Training for Cape Coast Technical School Students

Cross-section of participants of the Cape Coast Technical School
In collaboration with Abusua Foundation, a one-day Entrepreneurship Training Session was organised for the Cape Coast Technical School students by the Ghanaian IPYET 2011 Alumni. We spoke on the theme, 'Entrepreneurship Training for Students' under the following topics: Starting and Growing a Business, Raising funds for Entrepreneurship Ventures and Marketing and Customer Management. All these topics had their bearings from the The GETAhead manual since that was the main reference book. In fact the students had lots of ideas that can help move our nation and Africa as a whole. In all, the students who attended the programme were close to 250. Amazingly, some of them were already into youth entrepreneurship in one way or the other.

Certificate of participation were issued by Abusua Foundation while copies of presentation made available to participants.

On Friday, 14 October, 2011, the Entrepreneurship Training for Vocational Training & Rehabilitation Centre (VTRC) went very well. The Ghana team had a very fruitful interaction with 381 and 100 first and forth year students respectively. We enjoyed maximum staff corporation especially from the School Guidance and Counselling Co-ordinators; Mr Edem Agbanyo and Ms. Abigail Melomey. The programme was organised in collaboration with Abusua Foundation. The GETAhead was very useful in the training and some of the topics covered were:Starting and Growing a Business, Raising funds for Entrepreneurship Ventures and Marketing and Customer Management.
The open forum saw participants suggesting so many youth entrepreneurial ventures that can be very viable during and after their vocational training. Some of the suggested ventures were: Home services such as car washing, laundry and gardening services. Again during this time, participants were very impressed to have received such a training at no cost thereby commending the efforts of Commonwealth Youth Programme and ILO for indirectly giving them the training. As part of the promotion of Youth Entrepreneurship, all training materials were made available for the participants. In addition, Certificate of participation were issued by Abusua Foundation.
