Thanks Wayne for the nice design help on the user page....

Methinks that this might be a nice addition to our wikigardener roles....

In addition to the welcome by the wikigardener

1. encourage each new user to set up a user page... 2. have the wikigardener make a few pointers. in terms of properly setting up the page... 3. Have the individual register as a wikiambassador...

Cheers,

-- Wikirandy

Hey Wikirandy,

You're doing some pretty impressive community building stuff! Thanks. You might want to add a few details and information on your User page.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the kudos and encouragement. It's very cool to be connected to, and contributing to WikiEducator.

Helped a little with syntax

Hi Randy,

Just a few pointers on syntax - hope you don't mind. If you look at the history and compare versions - I can follow through the changes I made. If there are any questions. Give me a shout.

Randy: i've noticed that in a lot of places you're making your links that are actually internal look like external links; take a look at Internal Links for a guide on how to make internal links. brent 00:00, 23 August 2007 (CEST)

Lets go one better than Wiki gardner ...

Hi Randy,

This has triggered an idea - lets see if we can go one better than a Wiki gardner. My first thought is a WikiEducator Neighbour - someone who helps new folk find their way around the neighbourhood. Do you have any ideas for better concepts than WikiEducator Neighbour?

I'd imagine that the good Neighbour concept is reasonably universal. Once we sorted selected the best concept - I'm happy to start a page where we can try to describe this role.

We already have a few ideas from your post:

  • encourage each new user to set up a user page
  • Have the wikigardener or wikineighbour make a few pointers. in terms of properly setting up the page.
  • Have the individual register as a wikiambassador...

Possibly even getting newcomers to become Wiki Neighbours in the future helping new folk on board once they have developed a few skills to help with syntax etc.

We could also develop a tutorial on becoming a Wiki Neighbour ..... mmmmm

We could even have a short personal presentation from a Wiki Neighbour & the experience of the new arrival. Something we could work on together? I have a neat technology to help this along - see: http://www.wikieducator.org/Slideshow_demo#Demo

What do you think?

External & Internal WikiAmbassadors: (1) WikiAmbassadors; and (2) WikiNeighbours or WikiNavigators

Hi Wayne,

The thought that I have, is that there are two types of WikiAmbassadors - internal and external.

However, for simplicity sake, and clearer definition of roles, perhaps the external role = WikiAmbassador; and the internal role = WikiNeighbour or WikiNavigator.

Whatever we can do to enhance this 'culture of connections and community' will be good for the overall use and adoption of WikiEducator, and the engagement of key people within each community.

Tutorials, and brief presentation yes - perhaps even a "badge" or icon to identify each person in their role...and encourage them to put it on their own blog / website... Another idea might be some easy help to put a blogfeed on their Wikihome page, just like mine, or their website, regarding their activities in WikiEducator...

Yes, of course, I am open to working with you... :-)

Good thinking - External & Internal Ambassadors

Randy,

Good suggestion - A clear distinction of roles in making community connections. I like the idea very much and will start on getting a few ideas down in the wiki.

Cheers Wayne

Improvements to welcome note

Hi Randy,

Thanks for jumping in and suggesting improvements to the template. Great.

The template is live - so this would filter through to the pages where it is being tested with real users. So I've reverted back - not because I don't like the changes, but we need to tweak on one or two aspects before going live with the changes.

I've moved the draft over to sandbox - Sandbox where we can play until I get the technical tweaks sorted.

Hi Wayne,

Got it ~ love the Sandbox idea.

Also, love to see how these revisions are working, and displayed on these pages.

Computer Literacy Resources for Teaching

Glad you think our newly forming resource is going to be useful. :-)

Please feel free to add any resources into it that you think are relevant, and spread the word around to anyone who you know that may be interested in doing the same.

Kind regards,

I'm very impressed

Hi,

Your chain of achievements is very impressive and will serve as a great motivator for anyone who visits this page.Your activities on Wiki could be published as whole book. I guess i wouldn't be far from right if i label you as a Wikimania.

  Seth.

Hi. You left a message on a project page that I had created ("Cultural Studies Terms", asking me to put together a user page. I must confess that I just started this wiki at the beginning of the semester and am totally unaware of the procedures. I hope I thereby did not infringe on some right or made a blunder of "netiquette". If so, I apologize.

I do have a "user page": http://wikieducator.org/User:Rieser

But perhaps you mean something else. I would be grateful for advice.

Thanks,

Klaus Rieser

Hello Randy
