EGovernance

Science and Technology have always been an integral part of Indian culture. Natural philosophy, as it was termed in those ancient times, was pursued vigorously at institutions of higher learning. The Indian Renaissance, which coincided with our independence struggle, at the dawn of 1900s witnessed great strides made by Indian scientists. This innate ability to perform creatively in science came to be backed with an institutional setup and strong state support after the country’s independence in 1947. Since then, the Government of India has spared no effort to establish a modern S&T infrastructure in the country. The Department of Science and Technology plays a pivotal role in promotion of science and technology in the country. This section offers detailed information pertaining to scientific education and scientific research & development. Details of policies, schemes, documents and programmes for scientists, researchers, scholars, students, etc. are also available.

Jim Template editing

There are two basic ways of modifying a template: Copy a snapshot of an existing template, creating a new one modified for your use Edit the original to get the source use your browser's Copy function to make a copy of the wikitext source Cancel the editing of the original (not making any changes to the original, merely using the Edit function to get the wikitext) Create a newly named template use the browser's Paste function to populate it with that starting point modify to suit Parameterize an existing template You can use the What links here item in the navigation sidebar to find how the existing template is being used. If you think (a) others may benefit from changing the first word and (b) you want to be able to track along with any changes made to the original template... then it might make sense to modify the original, turning the word you want to change into a parameter with a default value of the original word. That way current users of the original template would be able to continue to use it unchanged, but you would be able to specify a different "first word." If you tell me the template you wish to start from and exactly how you want to change it, I can offer more specific suggestions. JimTittsler (Talk | contribs)23:09, 2 April 2012EditHistoryPermalinkReply Thanks for all the valuable quick response. Template:Aims I have put up it on the very first page of MU OER PORTAL. REGARDS DR SUJATA Dr Sujata Dhopte (Talk | contribs)01:06, 3 April 2012EditHistoryPermalinkReply Because your use is not related to the original Template:Aims, I used method #2 above. I copied the Template:Aims to Template:MU_OER_Header and modified it for your portal. JimTittsler (Talk | contribs)02:02, 3 April 2012EditHistoryPermalinkReply

Straight Sorry... I was unaware....but definitely follow your instructions. Pl do give such frank opinions..so that I will able to give justice to our project MU OER PORTAL by collective wisdom acquired by expertise like you. SLMintro is there on all the pages of the portal..was giving problem by denoting numerical 2 which was irrelevant,,,so editing was required,,,henceforward I will give it a try to create new version. thanks & indeed sorry for the inconvenience caused. Regards Dr Sujata

Revisions to SLM templates

Hi Sujata,

I noticed that you made changes to two of the SLM templates (intro and SAQ). Your revision in each was to delete one of the parameters. As these are widely used templates, that is many pages use these particular templates to structure content, we have to be careful when revising the templates that the changes don't impact other pages. In fact, without the parameter in the SLM intro template, any content specified in the intro section is lost.

The best way to deal with this problem is to make a new version of the template, maybe SLMintro2, which doesn't include the parameter.

If you have further questions about this, do let me know. I'm happy to explain further. Sorry for the trouble this causes.

Alison

SLMintro is their on all the pages of the portal..was giving problem by denoting This is the second temlate and I'm not sure if it works and what is expected to happen- such numerical,,,so editing was required,,,hence forward I will give it a try to create new version.

thanks & indeed sorry for the inconvenience caused.
