About Me

Entering 2015 I was in November featured on the User page expo (UPE) and have started to update this wiki userpage. My concept of 'Global Change' was mainly concerned of ecological threats and chemical toxicology, but I got interested in which knowledge and skills that would be required for the 21st century. I ended up promoting the ability to learn social media skills, networked literacy, communication and to make decision or solve problems with only partial understanding. When I was confronted with in-service teacher training I found that the context for everyday practices is often restricting innovative teaching due to confined working hours and lack of resources. Existing views and perceptions often sensitize us to filter our experiences and limit us to only use schemas already incorporated in our identity and role as teachers.

My position in this discourse for in-service teacher training is that we can leapfrog educational technology when we learn from experiences of others and then make them part of our own narrative. This appropriation requires critical reflection which will occur during interaction with a Community of Expert Practitioners (CEPs). That is why I promote the approach of peer-to-peer(P2P) learning and use of Computer Supported Collaborative learning (CSCL). Diversity and variation in ways of understanding, linked to ideas of phenomenology, is a key element to investigate our position and reveal new approaches or perspectives. Often the spontaneous and immediate experience is unprocessed and confusing, but this can later be used for intersubjectivity and collaborative learning. This is also expressed in the Cape Town Open Education Declaration:
"Educators worldwide are developing a vast pool of educational resources on the Internet, open and free for all to use. These educators are creating a world where each and every person on earth can access and contribute to the sum of all human knowledge. They are also planting the seeds of a new pedagogy where educators and learners create, shape and evolve knowledge together, deepening their skills and understanding as they go."

Ongoing Projects

eduToolkit is a Grassroots Organization promoting Teachers Open Online Learning (TOOL) for Professional Development. We investigate the concept of The Networked Teacher and find out more about Networked Literacy & Fluency in education. The realm of online education has endorsed Open Educational Resources (OER) and there are progress in Open Learning. The third Generation of E-learning is the development of Open Assessment that recognize that accreditation and certification occurs outside formal education. Our current focus is on using Mozilla Open Badges as the currency to capture and demonstrate learning, skills and reputation within the community.

Rather than Community of Practice (CoP) we are building strength on a Community of Expert Practitioners (CEPs). The conceptual foundation is based on sociocultural and activity theories, but with a pragmatic approach to application in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
