the situation in Israel

"We want you to tell us about the situation in Israel"

Dear friends from Mullen school, The 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict, part of the wider Israeli-Palestinian conflict, refers to an ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas which began when the Israel Defense Forces launched a series of airstrikes, known as Operation Cast Lead , (Mivtza Oferet Yetzukah), against targets in the Gaza Strip, after planning the operation for over six months. On 27 December 2008, (11:30 am local time (9:30 am UTC)) Israeli airstrikes hit various high-profile military and security targets and others suspected of being related to the Hamas government. Israel asserts its strikes are a response to near-daily Palestinian rocket and mortar fire on its southern civilian communities. The Israeli army is fighting the Hammas and trying not to hurt Palestinian civilians population.

Ramadan

Ramadan is a Muslim religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar; the month in which the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. It is the Islamic month of fasting (sawm), in which participating Muslims do not eat or drink anything from true dawn until sunset. Fasting is meant to teach the person patience, sacrifice and humility. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer more prayer than usual. During Ramadan Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance into the future, ask for help in refraining from everyday evils and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds.

Name origin
The name "Ramadan" is the name of the ninth month; the word itself derived from an Arabic root rmḍ, as in words like "ramiḍa" or "ar-ramaḍ" denoting intense heat, scorched ground and shortness of rations. It is the most venerated month of the Islamic year. Prayers, sawm (fasting), charity, and self-accountability are especially stressed at this time; religious observances associated with Ramadan are kept throughout the month.

Events of Ramadan
Laylat al-Qadr literally the "Night of Decrees" or "Night of Measures", is the anniversary of two very important dates in Islam that occurred in the month of Ramadan.[citation needed] It is the greatest night of the year like the Day of `Arafah is the greatest day of the year. It is a night about which Allah revealed a full Surah, Suratul-Qadr [97:1-5] and the 3rd to the 6th verses of Surat ad-Dukhan [44:3-6] It is the night when the Qur'an was revealed. It is the night when the Message (the Final and seal of all messages) sent to Mohammad, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, started. It is the night when the light, that would illuminate mankind to the end of life, started. It is the night when every matter of ordainment is decreed.

Eid ul-Fitr

Eid ul-Fitr or Id-Ul-Fitr, often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break the fast" and so symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period.

Eid ul-Fitr is a three day celebration and is called "The Smaller Eid" compared with the Eid ul-Adha that lasts four days and is called "The Greater Eid".

How to use wikieducator ?

  • First thing that needs to do in order to use wikieducator this to create a user by pressing on " creating an account ".

  • The second thing is :Editing Basics .

Every page that is editable will have a link along the top of the main content area that says "edit". Pages that are locked for editing will be substituted with a "View source" tab. Don't worry about this detail now - finding your way around a wiki page will become second nature. You will find the main edit link as a page tab, above the content area of a page. On pages that have subheadings, you will also find an "[edit]" link next to the heading to edit that particular subsection of the page. The edit links let you do exactly that: edit an entire page or single section within a page.
Tip: Remember that on WikiEducator you cannot edit a page without a valid user account. On some wiki's like Wikipedia, you can edit a page without a valid user account. However, in Wikipedia you can't create new pages without a user account.

  • Basic Text Formatting

WikiEducator uses a kind of simple text markup to format particular elements of the page (e.g. bold, italics, headings, etc). This "language" is known as Wikitext (or Wiki-markup) and is designed for ease of editing.

Much of this simple formatting can be added to your content by: (1)using the Editing Toolbar that appears while you are in editing mode and / or (2) typing the syntax by hand.

Note that the entire set of wiki formatting options are not available on the Editing Toolbar, so you will need to learn how to enter some of this syntax by hand. This will be useful information for more sophisticated formatting options (and devices) that will be dealt with in later / advanced tutorials.
