THE USE OF COMPUTERS IN TEACHING/LEARNING PROCESS AND EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH

Objectives

at the end of this lesson you should be able to know what Computer can do in teaching and learning the varoius facets of educational aspects

The computer is one of our most recent tools in education. The functional use of this tool in education can be divided into three categories namely:

1. Management
2. Instruction and Learning
3. Educational research

Management category includes school and classroom applications in budgeting, accounting, record keeping, printed and electronic communication and information retrieval.

Instruction and Learning can be subdivided into Teacher-Centred Instruction to take in software functions interacting directly with students under the teacher’s control in the design, development, and delivery of instruction as well as Student-Centred Learning, recognising functions related to the student involved in constructive activities that lead to learning.

Educational Research category including applications in statistical analysis and information retrieval is a unique area with tools designed for specific purposes. It must be recognised for the contribution it makes to teaching and learning.
