'''Finalising the Draft Youth Profile of WAY-West Are Are Youth Initiatives''' --[[] 05:00, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[[--[[User:Mexxy.A.Iapara--Mexxy.A.Iapara 11:44, 7 July 2013 (UTC)]] 04:58, 5 July 2013 (UTC)Link title]]

<'''DRAFT OF (WAY) WEST ARE’ARE YOUTH INITIATIVES'

--Mexxy.A.Iapara 04:56, 5 July 2013 (UTC)RATIONALE OF WAY The WAY is being considered as a possible mechanism for involving the youth in activities and programmes in the rural West Are’Are Constituency. The young people have not been sufficiently mobilized to work for the protection and management of the natural environment. The WAYPI will be assisted in acquiring the necessary skills and tools to investigate issues of environmental concern and management, develop practical programmes and projects that best utilize their creativity and energies, and develop enterprises that are economically and environmentally sustainable. The WAY will help build a new consciousness among the young people in the constituency on the importance of conservation, management of the environment and sustainable development. It will also enable the thinking, concerns and experience of young people to influence major national policy decisions aimed at development which integrates youth in meaningful social, cultural and economic programmes. In particular, WAY will ensure that an education reform programme will incorporate knowledge and thinking about the environment and development into the curriculum of the school system.

INTRODUCTION:

The West Are’Are Constituency is one of the biggest constituencies in Malaita Province as it is located South West of the Island. Seen that this particular constituency being as the largest land and coastal mass with a sufficient population of young people as from 14 – 29 years of ages. According to the recent population statistic records, West Are ‘Are has 5,000 young people for both male and female. The statistic records indicated that 90% of the young population is enjoying simple and a subsistence life style in the rural West Are’ Are. Thus, 80% of the young population is attending formal education system especially in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions in the country. And only 10% of the young population could have a formal employment opportunity in various government departments, non – governmental organizations (NGOs), Business companies, private organizations, and institutions. In fact, West Are’Are Constituency in particular has a potential young population but there has been no proper set up being made so as to mobilize young people to be recognized by the important institutions and organizations locally and internationally. There has been poor youth assistance especially towards the youth groups in the Constituency. For many years, West Are’Are young people have been neglected and marginalized by the leaders of the community. They have been always as scapegoats in their own society. As such the young people of the constituency wish to set a new vision as a new chapter in history especially for the young peoples’ formal governing system to help them to build an effective and efficient networking with the National and Provincial governments, Non – Governmental organizations, business organizations, churches, and institutions in Solomon Islands. Therefore, this vital initiative is being emerged basically to recognizing the potentiality of young people of West Are’Are Constituency thus to possess a sound pavement to address some of the long-standing issues which they’re facing in their society socially, economically, and politically.

OBJECTIVES OF WAY:

 To educate and train the young people on issues related to the environment and sustainable development.  To mobilize the young people of West Are’ Are Constituency to participate in activities for the preservation and management of our natural resources.  To develop constituency youth organization to capture the synergies of young people in activities which promote sustainable development as well as build individual and institutional capacity to implement programmes that achieve concrete measurable results.  To identify income generating projects which encourage the sustainable use of natural resources.  Encourage young people to actively participate in positive recreational/leisure activities.  To provide avenues for the participation of young people in planning, decision – making, implementation and evaluation of --Mexxy.A.Iapara 04:37, 5 July 2013 (UTC)all programs of West Are’ Are Constituency.

DESCRIPTION OF WAY The WAY will be made up of Community Based Association and youth groups and a constituency organization working on initiatives that promote the sustainable use of local resources including the young people themselves. This initiative will place emphasis on well planned activities that seek to address issues related to environmental degradation and proper management of natural resources including building of nature trails, training and education of young people, developing recreational and cultural centres, and for other activities which will be organized in the constituency. The work of the WAY will be based largely on volunteerism and services to the communities, thus the development program of the initiative will be coordinated and managed by the established Executive Committee. The importance of collaboration and cooperation and a better understanding of their role in the economic and social development process must be recognized and appreciated. The efforts will be made to develop projects that are economically self – sustaining and of an income generating nature so as to allow more opportunities for direct incentives to those who agreed to serve. A major part of the Association’s work will be in seeking to create more avenues for socially stimulating activities including other stakeholders to exchange programmes locally and nationally, important trips/missions, cultural events and meetings.--Mexxy.A.Iapara 04:35, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

OTHER INFORMATION:

WAY believes that to change the future of our society, there must be a serious and specific focus and concern on the current increasing population boom which we’re experiencing today.

Thus we must not ignore and forget the potentiality that our young people have been blessed with as we mobilize them properly and morally and financially support their development programs so that their would felt ownership by involving themselves in useful and beneficial activities.

Our young people are our leaders of today and tomorrow therefore, we must not sit back and always being spectators at them, but we need to really get down with them thus, then we can fully comprehend of their pressing issues and problems. However, WAY’s intention was to build an effective network with the relevant stakeholders and development partners to collaborate in seeking assistance to help in addressing issues and problems that our young people are facing in their own society. >
