My profile

My name is Maria Rosario Di Mónaco. I'm an EFL teacher from Rosario, Argentina and I work at a private language school. Where I live, learning English is almost a must if you want to get a good job, but most schools do not take students to a very high level so that's where private language schools come into play, catering for those who want to further their knowledge of the language. Students have classes twice a week and their ages range between 8 and 40+. We take them from beginners to advanced levels. Currently, I'm working mostly with those who are preparing for international exams at levels B2 and C1 in the CEF

Education

I consider myself a lifelong learner and I take advantage of every opportunity to continue my education through interaction with learners and colleagues alike.

My education includes:

  • Online courses with Net-Learning:
    • Teaching English Via the Internet
    • Instructional Design for E-learning, certified by UTN (Universidad Tecnológica Nacional)
  • SIGs (Special Interest Groups) with APrIR (Teachers' Association in Rosario):
    • Teacher Development
    • Cambridge ESOL
    • Error Treatment
    • CALL
  • Courses taken with WIA (Webheads in Action), a community of practice which has helped me immensely to become aware of the affordances of the new technologies in education and the need for lifelong, collaborative learning:
    1. Becoming a Webhead: participant
    2. Images 4 Education: participant
    3. EVO sessions, Enhancing Lessons: co-moderator
    4. Multiliteracies: participant

Professional Background

My wiki projects

My optional community service (learning contract) project

100px-L4C-small.png  Agreement
By signing this optional learning contract I will try to complete my training in basic wiki editing skills to achieve the status of a Wikibuddy. In return for this free training opportunity, I will give the gift of knowledge by donating or developing at least one free content resource licensed under a CC-BY-SA or CC-BY license which can be used by myself (and others) on WikiEducator.
Brief description of project
  1. Grammar Worksheet:Causative Have
  2. Introduce the members of Rosario CALL SIG to Wikieducator. We are a group of EFL teachers interested in enhancing our practice through the use of technology. Wikieducator would allow us to share resources with like-minded educators.
Target date for completion

  1. 29th July. Sorry! I'll need some more time to become more fluent in wiki skills

  2. This could take a bit longer but I'm planning to start working by 31st July

Feedback and notes from my WikiNeighbours

  • Dear Maria, Welcome to the Wiki. Glad you could make it to this great learning opportunity. Enjoy the course and feel free to jump right in, following the day-to-day instructions. I am here to help, should you need me. you can post your questions on the main workshop page under wiki discussions or you could email me email me. Warm wishes --Patricia Schlicht 17:33, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Hi Maria, It looks like you have previous knowledge. You made a great start. Well done. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 23:03, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Hi Maria, you have made good progress on user page. keep it up and visit as much pages of your neighbours as possible.Dr. Laxmi Narayan 11:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

  • Hi Maria, Glad to help. Thanks for checking out my userpage. Your page is coming along. Lots of good links to places--I enjoyed checking out webheads in action. Not sure I'd call "trial and error" and ineffective learning strategy--it requires a serious amount of active engagement! There are quite a few active EFL wikieducators--in fact, you might want to check out the work of one of this workshops facilitators: Ben. Feel free to check out the edit version of pages to see how people get things to work, so you can replicate what you like. See you around the wiki. (Comment.gif: Hi Maria, thanks for dropping by my userpage and for your compliments. I am hoping to expand and update My eTips page as these etips are based on MS Office 2003. I want to include web 2.0 Tools & Tips and provide links to online examples of how teachers use the tools in the classroom. This semester I am going to ask my students if they would like to add links to their work in a wikieducator page and create a pre-service teaching tools section. I have also added a link under the My Toolbox section to a wiki I created on pbworks (when I was exploring this tool) which lists lots of web 2.0 tools - fee free to add any you come across :) Cheers ) --jennip 03:25, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Maria, thanks for leaving a note on my page. You are a busy woman and brave to create a project on using Web 2.0 tools to enhance EFL teaching. Here are some sites that may be of use-

Listing of Web 2.0 tools

Tokbox is a great tool for practicing English and connecting with others

VoiceThread may also be useful.

Finally, here are all the Web 2.0 sites that I have bookmarked on Delicious.

I hope some of these are helpful.  --Suedavis 15:26, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
