My profile

My name is Mukatimui Chabala. I work for the International Labour Organization (ILO) as a National Programme Coordinator, in Zambia. Using wikis can be fun. Feel free and give it a try in my My sandbox

Professional background

I started my professional career as a Statistician/Demographer at the Central Statistics Office (CSO) in Lusaka. My main responsibilities involved collecting, compiling, analyzing and disseminating various social and demographic data either within the framework of national undertakings or individual requests from other partners and stakeholders. This work also included training field supervisors and enumerators.

After 4 years of service with CSO, I joined UNESCO in 2002 under the Young Professionals’ programme. I was at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris for a 1-year training period and was then transferred to the Windhoek Cluster Office in 2003 as Assistant Progamme Specialist in Education and later Programme Specialist in Education. My main role was to elaborate, coordinate, monitor and evaluate UNESCO's support for the implementation of national and regional programmes for Education for All (EFA) in all five cluster countries served by the Office (Angola, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Swaziland) and the wider southern Africa region where required. I left UNESCO after 6 years of service, and joined ILO Lusaka as a National Programme Coordinator (NPC) for the TACKLE Project, which is my current position. The TACKLE project addresses child labour through education, and I have so far completed 1 year of service under this responsibility. As NPC of the TACKLE Project, I coordinate the national activities of the project as they relate to implementation, monitoring and evaluation of child labour programmes, which is complemented with sensitisation and advocacy.

Education

I initially trained as a Demographer at the University of Zambia. I wnet on to pursue further training in Development Studies with the University of South Africa and International Education Policy Studies with the University of Witwatersrand and Columbia University's Teachers College.
