Security

  • "The Internet? We are not interested in that" Bill Gates, 1993
  • Windows is a system designed to enable one single user to perform tasks (Personal Computer). Nowdays everyone uses the Internet, which is a network, something Windows clearly was not designed for.
  • Linux was basically designed to be a multiuser and multi-tasking network environment.

Virusses

  • There are very few known Linux virusses, but beware of the false sense of security.
  • The Linux concept (working as a user with restricted rights and access) and the diversity of Linux distributions make it

a difficult task to create a virus that has a chance to survive.

Spyware

  • Spyware and key-loggers are designed to run on a Win32 platform. They just don't work in Linux.
