Action Plan

Nowadays children who are learning English as a foreign language face different factors that affect their learning. State the problem in your topic sentence, then create a classification paragraph that aligns to your topic sentence. All children are successful on acquiring L1, but it is different when children learn L2. The main factors are intelligence, aptitude, personality, motivation, and learner preferences. Children could face just one factor, but some others could present all of them.

My three paragraph essay

Children learning English as a foreign language face a specific external factor that affects their learning. This factor refers to one of the social components of the learners: family. Family (especially parents) provides most of the children’s motivation in any aspect of life. If children are not motivated or do not have support from their parents, they lack of self confidence.

I would mention something about parents in your topic sentence.Self confidence has a role on learning a second language particularly in children. Teachers are in charge of motivating students in order to make them feel eager to learn, but parents have to play their role. Parental involvement in children’s education from an early age has a significant effect on educational achievement, and continues to do so into adolescence and adulthood (Sylva 2004). Parents are not supposed to make children think that English is useless; they have to motivate their kids telling them that knowing English gives them other opportunities. You needed two citations in your body paragraph.

To sum up, children have to be motivated in order to be able to learn English language. It means that teachers are not the unique people to make students want to learn; also parents have to do their part. Parents are responsible for teaching their children that English subject is important; also that nowadays they are lucky of having the opportunity to learn. To conclude, both teachers and family have to work together to motivate kids for making them have the desire to learn.

My Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy in the English language classroom is that learning is the same as doing. In order to really learn something I have to be in touch with that thing. If I use and apply what I learn, to remember or to do that automatically is easier. What I learn stays in the long term memory as declarative knowledge, when I apply that it becomes procedural knowledge. I learned English using the grammar translation method by my own; it means that in order for me to understand the form, meaning, and use I had to translate the sentences. For instance, I consider that using this method will help my students, but it has to be a gradual process: each time to speak less Spanish. Now I teach children and I have to use TPR, so I think that this method really helps children to learn, but they have to be really in touch with the language. This can be possible by providing them a context where they really feel the language. This can be done using Suggestopedia, but sources and materials are not available. As a result of that, I have to come up with creative activities and the design of material; also I have to use authentic and non-authentic materials to help students learn.

  • Jessica, try to avoid yes/no questions when developing your research questions. Begin your research question with a question word: how, why, when, where, with whom, etc. --Bnleez 14:32, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
