My Profile

Professional Background

I really enjoyed my years teaching in the State system, especially working with the junior children and the years spent team teaching in a 3 - 4 teacher "country" primary school at Warrington. Our teaching curriculum followed the needs and interests of the children. We all developed many skills and had heaps of fun! The children were encouraged to be independent self-motivated learners. Each fortnight the older children were given their goals and expectations and they were free to plan and complete the activities as they chose. Small teaching groups were withdrawn for specific teaching lessons. This "Warrington Way" followed the principles of the Montessori Way - a learning style which I had become interested in when my children were young. So looking for changes I studied for my Montessori Teaching Diploma in EC (teaching 3 - 6 year olds). I also really enjoyed the next years of my teaching career working in the Montessori field - head teacher at a privately owned 3 - 6 preschool; a year long-term relieving in a state integrated Montessori primary class ( 6 - 9 yr olds); administrator in the largest Montessori pre-school in Dunedin (3 classes catering for children aged from 18 months to 6 years) and then to become Assistant Centre Manager at the same pre-school. There was a period in amongst all this when I had a break from teaching to be a sales rep for an educational supplier. and now here I am .... combining all of the above in my current position .... back at Warrington School, working as office administrator, teacher aide, incorporating my Montessori knowledge, developing my computer skills and sharing my educational background. That is just the ultimate...... and so good to be working in the Warrington Wellbeing Way, being a valued part of a great team. And so fortunate that we are all Wiki-ing together!!www.wikieducator.org/warrington_school/

My Favourite Quotes

" Don't walk in front, I may not follow, Don't walk behind, I may not lead, Just walk beside me and be my friend."

" Yesterday is history Tomorrow is a mystery Today is a gift - That's why its called the present."

" It takes courage to be creative. Just as soon as you have a new idea, you are a minority of one." E Paul Torrence

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." William Morrow

My Family

Jeff and I have two daughters - Julia lives in Pukekohe with her husband Andrew and their lovely baby son Finn. They are a busy family who manage to keep up with the Auckland pace of lifestyle. Kylie and her partner Lyle live in Dunedin and both teach in Early Childhood centres. Kylie works at Montessori at Mosgiel [3] and Lyle is one of three male teachers working at Early Childhood on Stafford [4]. They both enjoy working with preschoolers, particularly in the outdoor environment.

My Reflection

Without good health your world gets turned upside down! Thankfully there are folk out there who understand this... and very talented specialists who continue seeking to solve the mystery! Be persistent and find those professionals who really do care and understand! ( August 2009 - )
