  • Concept Mapping
  • Collaboration Techniques (jigsaw II)
  • Are accustomed using:
  • the internet and
  • pc’ s applications

Descriptions

The Social Interaction strategic jigsaw ii requires that different pupils/students assume specialized roles in reaching the goals of a learning activity. Students become experts on a particular portion of a learning task/ sub-topic(Input / Output Devices, Main Memory – Secondary units of memory, CPU (Central Processing Unit) – Pc’s Architectural, History of PC’s - Categories of computers) and teach others on that subject. We use concept maps, formative and summative assessment.

Roles

Descriptions/ Steps

Steps:

1st. Information Gathering

Students are assigned to jigsaw groups and assigned sub-topics in which they have to develop expertise. They use preexistence sources -materials, books, etc. It is useful to have sheets of works to help them gathering the appropriate information. Each pupil constructs a concept map using f.ex. Cmap (http://cmap.ihmc.us/conceptmap.html). It could be used as individual assessment.

2nd. Expert Meeting

Expert, after teacher’s feedback, meet to compare cmaps and notes. It’s an opportunity to clarify misunderstanding and be productive members of a group. The communication between teacher – pupils and pupils with each other could be done using a learning management system, f.ex. moodle (forums & wikis), or wiki (main page-discussion). Each team will construct a concept map. Using rating scales –written scales of evaluative dimensions which contains scales of values on wich each dimension is rated – or/and a teacher concept map.

3rd. Team Reports

Experts teach the sub-topic to other jigsaw team member. They organize and summarize their information and become teachers trying to explain their sub-topics to others

4th & 5th. Evaluation and Recognition.

Students take individual quiz on all topics and/or prepare an assessment. Using a rating scale they assess their productivity as members of a group. The role of a teacher is very important because he/she must served as a model helping pupils in note taking, organizing notes, summarize info and presented to others

Assessment

According to the above, evaluation is both formative (concept maps, notes) and summative (quiz, assessment)
