Talk:CCNC/Archive

Somewhere along the way, CCNC was switched for CNCC. I corrected this for the main project page, http://www.wikieducator.org/CCNC. Upon review, I see this has begun to leak through-out the CCNC project. I'd suggest each module group clean up this before it becomes to entrenched... -- Peter Rawsthorne 18:36, 24 April 2007 (CEST)

Hi Peter Well spotted - a little misshap in C's and N's!! I'm afraid I had to override your changes though, because of the way that the wiki works.

If you look at the 'source' in edit mode, you see the following link and link title which appears on the page - example - '* CCNC Module 1 - Concepts of IT'. If you change the first part (the actual link to the page) you create a new page. For now I've gone back and put the old link back in () but changed the second part (what appears on the page - CCNC Module 1). That way people who are working on these pages won't suddenly find their page has gone. Its great to get other eyes to spot the faults - thank you! (Sue 04:16, 26 April 2007 (CEST)).

Sue, I'm sorry to do this, and my deepest apologies if I have overstepped my role, I have overridden your override. I have reverted back to having the correct URL (link) in the wiki page source and have fixed the problem you speak of about losing the link, all module pages resolve to the correctly spelled acronym, I cascaded my changes through all the links I could find on the dependent pages. So everything looks as it did, only the CCNC is correct in both the first and second parts of the link. My software development experience tells me that letting something small like this slip through would cost the overall project many hours of increased effort due to the syntax confusion. As a certified quality professional I believe that doing it right is always the best, always. Don't let quality slip, particularly early in a project. In the long run it costs less and increases maintainability... We may want to request that all the 'CNCC' pages be deleted so cached links don't pop up... If you want to revert back again, I will let it go. Please don't alter the module 5 links for all my work exists under the correct CCNC link name structure. Of note; it would seem that it was only module 5 that had any work done, so we didn't lose anything. A couple other factors worth considering;

  1. the CCNC is considered a flagship for the WikiEducator. So we are setting a quality precedence.
  2. people sometimes type the URL link in and don't follow the link so correct spelling is important.

Again, sorry if I have over stepped my role. And sorry for the quality rant. -- Peter Rawsthorne 07:42, 26 April 2007 (CEST)

Absolutely agree about quality Peter. I wasn't going to let it stand as CNCC, but my initial reaction was to ensure that other developers on the project didn't suddenly link to a blank page. We had created all the initial module pages using the template formats, so some work had in fact been done - just didn't want a surprise for developers to see blank pages. Its great now to have so many hands on board, and at the same time it takes some effort for us all to co-ordinate and make sure people know what's happening. Many thanks for your work on this! Perhaps a nice addition to this page would be what CCNC actually stands for? It's not listed anywhere. brent 06:29, 30 April 2007 (CEST)

Hi Brent! Good to hear from you. Yes, we have some 'design and information' for our front page to yet to do. What you see here is a 'placeholder' for that to happen. As yet we simply have the links to the development areas for the developers, and then one of the last tasks will be to design this 'Home' page, with useful 'end user' information.
