People credited with this unit standard are able to:: determine the purpose and scope of an information search; access and select information; and review the information search, access, and selection process undertaken.

This unit is used in the following courses

Determine the purpose and scope of an information search.

  • The purpose for an information search is identified.
  • The scope of the information search is identified.
  • The scope fits the purpose of the search, and allows for information to be gathered from at least three different types of sources.

Range: types of sources may include but are not limited to - own knowledge, people, information technology including the internet, printed matter.

Access and select information.

  • Information is gathered from three different types of sources.

Range: types of sources may include but are not limited to - own knowledge, people, information technology including the internet, printed matter.

  • Information selected is relevant to the purpose (1.1).

Review the information search, access, and selection process undertaken.

  • Conclusions identify the extent to which the process undertaken and the information gathered met the purpose of the search.
