Online meeting consultation

Agenda consultation: OERu 16-11 Oceania Regional Meeting (Part A)
  1. Attendance: Luke Padgett, Ray O'Brien, Catherine Clark, Neil Martin, Adrian Stagg, Wayne Mackintosh
  2. Introductions: Participants introduced themselves.
  3. Reviewed the draft agenda:
    • Confirmed the video conference interview with the UNESCO OER Chairs from 3.00pm to 4.00pm
    • Agreed the proposals for "show-and-tell" presentations from OERu partner institutions:
      1. Linda Ward, CSU's Indigenous Australia OERu course development.
      2. Ray O'Brien, Otago Polytechnic, Micro-credentials and Open Badges for OERu courses.
      3. Adrian Stagg, USQ's remix and institutional branding of OERu student video.
    • Agreed the proposals to discuss the summary of outcomes from the 5th international meeting of OERu partners and the 4th meeting of the OERu Council of CEOs, including:
      1. Launch of the MVP.
      2. Course nominations.
      3. Issues relating to accreditation.
      4. Due diligence steps for the launch of the OERu 1st year of study.

    • Discussed marketing and learner recruitment for MVP:
      1. Agreed that this would be a valuable contribution with a focus on how this could best be integrated to benefit local partner institutions.
      2. Recommended that in this discussion, we share the outputs of the previous work on OERu open business models.
    • Confirmed that the meeting should provide inputs into the OERu process evaluation plan.
  4. Discussed the Learning in a Digital Age (LiDA) course development and options for local adoption:
    • Acknowledged interest among partners to explore potential options for collaboration and reuse.
    • Noted the potential for multiple partners to engage in an open boundary format course delivery prototype.
    • Noted the value in demonstrating the OERu resource bank technology to support the "pedagogy of discovery".
  5. Considered proposals for additional agenda additions:
    • Recommended mapping of what courses OERu is looking for against what partner institutions have available. For example, initial discussions at USQ indicate that an OERu course on Research Methods combined with OERu open data could be an attractive proposition for the network with the ability to research real-world problems.
    • Emphasised the value of sharing lessons learned about implementation at the institutional level and how to leverage collaboration in this area.
    • Discussed the value of data-based decisions to inform marketing and future curriculum priorities for OERu.
    • Confirmed the need to discuss and share how partners offering awards are managing and implementing OERu credit transfer. In particular, the relationship between OERu micro-courses and how this maps to different course sizes across the network, including implementation tips.
    • Recommended the inclusion of discussions of quality guidelines for OERu courses in the context of the proposed rationalisation of OERu working groups agreed at the recent international partners meeting.
