Creating Subpages and Templates

HI Gladys

Tha cheatsheet has really been very helpful to me, especially to edit my photo. Can help me with how to use colours for headings in my user page,\. thx--Prema leckraz 11:44, 14 November 2009 (UTC) I have been working on setting up a template for my project and although I feel I have been reasonably successful I seem to have a double "first Page". I went through quite a bit of trial and error, to follow the instructions before it clicked and I got what I wanted but I am not sure how I ended up with a first page which has a hyperluink from the title to a page that doesn't really go anywhere! I am sure with a bit more work I will sort it out but just wondered if you could see where I had gone wrong. Thanks a lot for this course by the way. It has been great. Will we be able to carry on reading what other people on the course have been doing as I have read a bit of other people's pages but due to work commitments haven't had time tio comment or get involved in much dialogue. Now that some of my students leave to do their exams I may have more time... Cheers --Robeanne 12:04, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Uploading photos

Hi, I'm still having trouble uploading photos. My photos are labelled JPEG (capitals) not jpeg hence I cannot upload. Is anyone having the same problem? Thanks.--Smita 07:08, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Further to my last post, I found my picture on the file list and managed to upload my photos from the file list. But still having problems uploading from my computer. Also is it possible to change the dimensions of the photos. Thanks --Smita 07:32, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

 • Re: Hi Smita, JPEG files can be uploaded to WikiEducator, please see Image:Nichupte3.JPEG. Please remember that maximum file size is 2 MB, is your file size less than the maximum allowed?
 • Re: You can resize an image before uploading to WE, once uploaded redimensioning can be done by using wikicodes for images, e.g. set image example.jpg to a width of 100px
 • Re: If you still have issues with and specific image, please email it to me, so I can have a better idea on what exactly the problem is
 • Cheers, --Gladys Gahona C. 08:59, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

How to change background color of a wiki page

Hi Gladys, I think I can manage pictures now. Can you advise me on how to change the background of user page. Thanks --Smita 10:38, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

 • I'm glad you want to know even more, as this is a self paced basic wiki skills course I can consider myself a lucky facilitator because I have the oportunity to help learners that request for learning more advanced items :-)
 • I am working on a help page titled Help:Colors, please read the page, you will find some new codes (html tags), copy the codes to your sandbox, then test variations..., remember you can also copy codes from other WikiEducator pages, law here is: I defend my right to let others copy from me :-) I'll be in touch --Gladys Gahona C. 14:37, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Using main pages and subpages for a project

I started working on a project in my sandbox and I need some guidane on the feasabilty or not of my idea. I am interesrted in designing a platform where a group of people can come together and work on either the design of a project or a strategy, or report on the advancement/progress of either one. I am envisionning the parent page to be the whole document, and the sub pages, a page per main topic, to be the different sections of the document. As different people draft specific components of the project on individual/seperate pages, content filters up automatically to the parent page/main document. The product manager can edit the main document and that also filters down to the individual pages and gives the opportunity to responsible bodies to react to the feedback, accept or reject it.

I have been able to go with this idea as far as today's assignement but I don't want to continue to invest in it if it's going to take me to a dead end. I continue to hope that it's possible and that would be of great help to international organizations if that's the case. Driss Moumane

 • Re: Dear Driss, wiki is an excellent web 2.0 tool for colaborative project management. I'd love to assist you on the development of the resource. Even it is not a rule, I suggest you create the SObj and IR as supages of main page, that is typing code: /SObj1/ instead of SObj1. Could you add an example for SObj1 so we can have a better idea on how to design the filtering process? Saludos --Gladys Gahona C. 21:36, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Problem solved

 • Hi there - problem solved - I have worked it out! Phew!--Robeanne 21:49, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Confused about creating internal links

 • Hello,I am confused about creating internal links - I have followed all the instructions but am obviously missing something as I can't get my links to go to the pages I have created. External links are fine! thanks --Robeanne 21:06, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
Re: Hello Anne, let's do an experiment:
 • In your User page you typed following code: sandbox\, (forward slash - My sandbox - back slash) target page's URL is http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Robeanne/My_sandbox\
 • Try typing following code: sandbox/ (forward slash - My sandbox - forward slash), what's the URL for the target page? http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Robeanne/My_sandbox
 • Do you notice any difference on target pages? Do they have exactly the same name? What would the conclusion be from the experiment?

 • Hi Gladys, thanks for that - I only just looked to find your answer but had already worked it out after a bit of playing around with things. Sort of getting my head round things now --Robeanne 04:40, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
 • just a thought - we actually ended up making it work by not putting in the full URL - that is we didn't need www.wikieducator... the instructions seemed to suggest that you needed all of that but when I took it out the link worked!
Re: There are several ways to add a link to your user page:
 1. User:Robeanne
 2. Anne's Page
 3. [1]
 4. Anne's Page
 5. http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Robeanne
Please turn to editing mode and study each code. All of them work... however number 3 is not considered acceptable. --Gladys Gahona C. 05:33, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Confused about the sandbox

 • Hello, I am confused about the sandbox. Can I just go to my user profile and click on edit sandbox? Or do I have to create a link to the sandbox? Also I would like to insert photos but don't know how? For instance I don't know where to access some command buttons for instance the vertical line.

--Smita 04:03, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi Smita, You are off to a fast start. The link to your sandbox has already been created on your user page. It should show as a red link and you can follow the link and start typing :-) They will be answered in upcoming tutorials (if you can't wait to get moving go to Help:Contents for a list of the tutorials.) A reflection

Hello, Well up to now, things are going smoothly. Everything is very interesting and I'm learning lots of things. Setting up the gallery, inserting media and links and... is all cool. I have learnt many things out of this workshop. At first I thought it might be a waste of time but I realise how wrong I was. Editing Wiki is not just about adding words, it so much more. I'm very glad to be part of this workshop. --Nimla Philippe 18:19, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

 • Re: Thank you Nimla for the relection.I am honored to be facilitating the workshop :-) --Gladys Gahona C. 21:44, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
