INTRODUCTION

The Institute of Technology in the National University of Samoa has adopted and localized this concept so that it would be easier for everyone to get used to. In particular, this lesson will look at the Application and the Interpretaion of 5S in Samoan language.

Definition
The concept of Kaizen originates from Japan which means continuous improvement.



Application of 5S

5s is a 5 step method which systemactically organizes your workplace, home, school or any environment. the main objective of 5S is to reduce the waste of effort, time and resources by constantly improving work ethics, confidence and motivating others. In the end, 5S contributes tot he improvement of customer services.

  • SEIRI
  • SEITON
  • SEISO
  • SEIKETSU
  • SHITSUKE

5S DEFINITION AND INTERPRETATION IN SAMOAN

  1. SEIRI (Dispositon) - FAAVASEGA
    • sorting things into necessary and unnecessary items and dispose the unnecessary items

  2. SEITON (Orderly Arrangement) - FAATULAGA
    • defining places where articles are placed and the methods of placement, for future easy access
    • Faatulaga lelei mea faigaluega i avanoa ua uma ona tuuina iai, a manaomia lea mea faigaluega e faigofie ona maua i lona tulaga ua uma ona fai.
  3. SEISO (Cleanliness) - FAAMAMA
    • keeping work uniforms and work places clean
    • E taua le faamama o togiga aemaise mea faigaluega o loo faatinoina ai galuega i totonu o fale faigaluega i taimi uma.
  4. SEIKETSU (Maintenance) - FAAIILA
    • keeping work environment free of waste, dust and dirt

  5. SHITSUKE (Discipline) - FAALELEIA ATILI
