Qualifications frameworks

competency units

  • Get qualifications frameworks AND curriculum standards up onto the wiki - How do we do this?
    • Frameworks define:
    • roles or domains
    • their related tasks
    • their behaviors, skills, knowledge and capabilities
  • Built in ontology - see for example http://www.nasbitecgbp.org/goto/95 and [1]
  • Unit standards become a structure for content development or categorising content
  • See also - Shaggy’s Training Packages Unwrapped (for legacy units) or NTISthis (which uses the latest data)

requirements

  • Must be available as free content
  • NZ effort out of date
  • Controlled approval of the National Training Board?

Open questions

  • Can Omegawiki / Semantic wiki help?
  • Connexions can deal with approved and developmental versions
  • How do we engage public comment
  • How do we communicate the value proposition for engaging in this process - make users part of the sell?
  • How do we engage employers?

Learning performance

More Open Questions

  • How do we map learning outcomes to unit standards?
  • Is there a role for ePortfolios to support RPL/PLA?
  • Learning process may not follow the structure of the unit standards - How can the semantic web be used to link Unit standards and learning processes
  • How does this fit in with recognition of prior learning & transnational accreditation.
  • Personal start pages for key people to use for alerts and the like

Recognition devices

  • ePortfolios
  • web2
  • backpack
  • media wiki
  • google
  • friend of a friend

unit standards as scope

Classifying material by unit standard... to share materials across countries. Make this a standard lens across all platforms.

Consider avoiding having full wikibooks, and instead having unit standards, with blank collab spaces (wiki pages, &c) for students to go off and fill up oncethey understand the standards

Testing Centers

How can we enable low-cost, open source testing software to create testing centers?

Need to drive down the cost of testing.

In what ways can we support other forms of performance validation at centers? Human evaluators, portfolios, other evidence-based methods that map to the qualifications frameworks?

total asides

  • add a mediawiki plugin that autogenerates an additionalline belowthe edit summary, informed by any title keywords or categories, asking for funny metadata. for environmental pages: "how recently did you see algore's latest documentary?"
  • pre-assessment -- who does this?

person-centered tools

social networking feedback.

  • slideshare.net, youtube as well -- getting people to join, create a small group of friends, uploading and tagging, finding related work.
  • launching participatory culture. tutorials such as thewikied work so far.
  • organize content around conversations (i.e. colloquia)
  • Simplified password and login. openid.

midlevel opportunities

  • talk to big social nets, get them to accept super-low-barrier signon
  • grassroots never talk to the ceo. another mid-level effort/opportunity. (which?)

how toshare qual frameworks

  • do it as much as possible; incentive to make it free.
    • get the test-creators to provide support for test training?
    • work with unesco to support os engine to deliver wherever. lower costs of assessing, and of building test-tools
  • check with icdl/ecdl do:intl certification.
    • wikinomics? consider this in education. try mass collab.
    • touchstone in oz - assessment only. very streamlined opportunities. not yet in nz.

wysiwyg editng

  • current editing buttons not so cool.
  • try better detailed guidlines, and more 'wys' style options.

free flowing

  • diagonal crossing of an intersection

curriculum points

consider

  1. unit standards
  2. curricular activities (projects around unit syllabus)
  3. workflow and process support (combining activities)
  4. supporting various activities around a standard

story-based learning

like a good apprenticeship,consider:

  • what does a story of work looklike.
  • storyboarding [tutorial]
  • think of learning outcomes for each; how to assess
  • check against unit standard; see if that works.

mashup tools; teacher-centered processes

how can teachers just before a lecture top up their effort, make sense of it

  • pulling together a presentation
  • ditto a worksheet, workbook
  • feeds for practice.
  • cf. mobiled video scenarios. teemu@ fut.of.learning and participatory design

analysis tools

Reviewing and analysing standards

  • how does this happen now?

process

something used by EDEXCEL: See page 13 [2]

taster --> initial assessment
   --> diagnosis -->  mapping database
     --> MATERIALS  --> final assessment
materials: on thewiki
final assessment: done by educational boards

listing potential curriculum options

1. try unioning existing standards

  • 20 courses for 1st 2-level curric of a degree across all schools?
  • comsec for s.af commonwealth authority...

2. generate reading lists for each

  • start with wikiosity

3. generate linklists for each

  • start with tag matches in OERC, WE, IArch, &c.

tools

video!

  • py2vnc -- add a gui.
  • youtube can't use a full-screen caster
