Program Manager

Main Purposes of the Job

1. To plan and develop the schedule of programmes for the station in conjunction with the Station Manager and local steering group

2. To manage the delivery of the programme schedule at our Community Radio station

3. To ensure that station output complies with the policy guidelines agreed with this Community Radio station and with the relevant Radio Authority Codes

4. To liaise with client community groups, local service providers and regeneration agencies

5. To recruit local volunteers and manage them in staffing the station

6. To work with the Station Manager to develop and manage training for volunteers, and to occasionally deliver training

7. To plan the work programme for the Volunteer Support Worker(s) and to assist in their line management

8. To develop and maintain administrative and management systems as required

9. To work with the Station Manager to enable and facilitate local control of station output

10. To work with the Station Manager to implement the monitoring and evaluation of this Community Radio station in conjunction with Radio Regen and as required by funders

11. To work with the Station Manager to develop and implement a publicity strategy

12. To liaise with the Technician in his/her work at the station.

13. To act as Programme Producer when the Volunteer Support Worker or volunteers are not available

14. To undertake other duties as required


Person Specification

Skills/Knowledge

  • The ability to create and manage a programme schedule for a community radio station
  • An in-depth knowledge of the community
  • Good knowledge of radio production techniques and theory and of Radio Authority codes
  • The ability to negotiate and work with a range of groups e.g. community groups, regeneration agencies
  • The ability to set up and maintain efficient administrative systems
  • The ability to work co-operatively with and motivate other members of a team
  • The ability to manage a programme of work and prioritise tasks with minimal supervision
  • The ability to write and communicate succinctly and clearly
  • An understanding of the principles and implementation of an equal opportunities policy.


Experience, Qualifications, Training

  • Substantial experience of managing within a community radio environment
  • Experience of using word processing and spreadsheet programmes


Work related circumstances

  • A willingness to undergo additional training as required
  • A willingness to undertake duties in the evening or at weekends when required following prior decisions and agreement with line manager
