Manager, Communications and E-Marketing

Location: Ottawa, ON

Reports to: Reports to the Vice President, Market Development

Classification: Level 5

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Vice President, Market Development of the Canada Green Building Council, the Manager, Communications and E-Marketing, is responsible for planning, managing and overseeing all CaGBC communications and e-marketing needs at a strategic and program delivery level. Including: the coordination of all writing, editing and proofing of communications and marketing materials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Oversees the development and implementation of the CAGBC’s communications outreach program, including: media relations, website, public relations, etc…;
  • Development and delivery of Communications plan supporting Council’s strategic direction/positioning, tools, programs and events, and programs;
  • Supports the internal communications network (chapters, staff and board) and ensures internal stakeholders are kept up-to-date on project timelines, goals and objectives;
  • Manages the variety of web content in both official languages, including blogs and multimedia content, through web-based tools (writing / editing will be required)
  • Develop creative briefs and work with creative agencies and in-house resources to manage process through execution;
  • Authors, edits and finalizes marketing materials and web site content as required;
  • Establishes & maintains relations with key media contacts;
  • Provides direct support to the Market Development Committee (as required);

E- MARKETING

  • Supports the development and implementation of the Council’s branding strategy to effectively communicate the value proposition of the Council to industry, government and the members;
  • Develop and implement a communications and e-marketing plan for the CaGBC to position the Council in targeted channels within the private and public sector, as well as the public at large; in accordance with the Council’s overall strategic direction;
  • Working with MD team members and managers, oversees the development and delivery of marketing and collateral materials promoting the Council’s educational, certification and member programs to targeted audiences within industry, government, and non-profit sector and CaGBC Chapters;
  • Manage website development (in consultation with Manager, Market Development)
  • Develop and deliver the outreach plan for the CaGBC on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, and other emerging social networking platforms;
  • Work with internal teams to support effective use of CaGBC website;
Resource Development and Coordination
  • Manage the production and design of art ready materials for CaGBC materials such as: brochures, flyers, certificates, posters, pamphlets, business cards, newspaper ads, handbooks, booklets, charts, schedules and forms in both official languages;
  • Manage the production and distribute electronic newsletters and other electronic communications to stakeholders;
Translation
  • Work with CaGBC teams to determine and establish budgets (with VP Market Development) for translation needs for the fiscal year ;
  • Assist with other projects as needed.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Progressive experience in a wide range of areas of market development: communications, marketing, social media, media relations, production, etc. preferably in a not-for-profit environment
  • Experience in developing and monitoring critical paths, budgets and reports
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion and good judgment at all times and with all levels of people (e.g., colleagues, volunteers, members and public)
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills preferably in a business sector/ government environment
  • Proven experience as a staff manager and team motivator; ability to build effective internal and external relationships through a collaborative and motivating working style
  • Capable of working in a team-oriented, virtual environment where team members and service providers may be geographically dispersed
  • Experience and/or working knowledge of environmental issues and/or sustainable development with preferred experience in green building design and construction,
  • Strong computer skills including MS Access, Excel, Word, Photoshop, HTML and web-analytics;
  • Fluency in both official languages is preferred (written and oral);

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Masters degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, New Media, Journalism and 7+ years progressive experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
